UFC 149 in Calgary officially sold out

Those Canadians sure love 'em some MMA.

UFC officials today announced that "UFC 149: Aldo vs. Koch" has officially sold out of tickets.

The event takes place July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight titeholder Jose Aldo meets Erik Koch in the pay-per-view headliner.

Despite a card that lacks some of the UFC's top draws, UFC 149 sold out in remarkably quick time. A pre-sale began earlier this week on Thursday, and the general public could purchase tickets starting just today.

An estimated 18,000-plus tickets have been sold in the two days they've been on sale.

UFC 149 is the first event held in Calgary and the ninth overall in Canada. Some of the UFC's biggest shows – including a record-breaking UFC 129 show in Toronto (55,724 attendees for a $12.1 million gate) – have been hosted in the fight-crazed country.

In addition to Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) vs. Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), UFC 149 features light heavyweights Thiago Silva (14-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (20-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and heavyweights Cheick Kongo (17-7-2 MMA, 10-5-1 UFC) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-7-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC). A number of Canadian fighters also have been booked for the card.

Flattr this!
