Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson Possible for UFC 149 in Calgary

Depending upon how reigning light heavyweight king Jon Jones recovers from Saturday’s lopsided victory over Rashad Evans, the 24-year-old could make his next title defense at UFC 149 against Dan Henderson. If UFC president Dana White gets his way, the 205-pound shootout will headline the July 21st festivities.

“[Jones'] hands are sore, you know, all the things that go along with coming out of a fight like that. We got to give them a few weeks to see how he feels and we’ll figure out what the main event is in Calgary,” White stated. “But that would be awesome. If we could make that fight, that would be great.”

Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada will host the UFC’s debut in Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s homeland. The venue seats roughly 19,000 fans.

Featherweight champ Jose Aldo was originally slated to serve as the show’s featured attraction, but it appears “Scarface” will now perform in front of his fellow Brazilians at UFC 147.

Henderson earned his shot at the throne after his instant classic victory over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139. The November contest marked the 41-year-old’s fourth consecutive W.

Jones, meanwhile, is perfect through his past seven outings. Last Saturday’s landslide win over his bitter rival marked his fourth straight over a prior UFC title holder.

“Bones” previously professed he wanted to top last year’s torrid 5-0 run. Considering his win over Evans was his first in 2012, it’s possible he’ll accept the matchup. Furthermore, the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission didn’t list any injuries for Jones and only issued him a mandatory seven-day medical suspension.

Here is what UFC 149′s proposed roster currently looks like:

Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen

George Roop vs. Antonio Carvalho

Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon

Court McGee vs. Nick Ring

Jon Fitch vs. Aaron Simpson

Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama

Dan Henderson vs. Jon Jones (UFC Light Heavyweight Champion)

Flattr this!
